April 2025 VIP: Celebrating Our Volunteers in Preservation

This month, we’re excited to shine a spotlight on one of our dedicated volunteers, Janet Brewer! You may have seen Janet in our gift shop or on our Lighthouse Learners field trips, where she’s been a passionate volunteer with the Old Baldy Foundation for over two years now. Janet’s warm, welcoming smile greets visitors as she introduces them to the history of North Carolina’s oldest standing lighthouse.

Janet has also played an important role in guiding fourth-grade students visiting Bald Head Island for the first time during our Spring field trip seasons. Many of these students have never been on a boat before, and Janet’s patience and enthusiasm make their ferry ride a memorable experience.

In addition to her volunteer work, Janet is a talented artist who creates custom glass art inspired by pirates, mermaids, Old Baldy, and more. You can find her beautiful pieces for sale in our gift shop, offering a unique way to support her work while taking home a special piece of Bald Head Island.
