Old Baldy receives a $10,000 donation and featured spot in an upcoming motion picture!

In late July, One Summer Pictures, LLC, the production company behind the upcoming Hallmark movie “One Summer,” made a substantial donation of $10,000 to the Old Baldy Foundation in support of our ongoing mission to preserve North Carolina's oldest lighthouse! This significant contribution helps Old Baldy recuperate from the financial implications of closing our doors in the summer of 2020 to comply with COVID-19 restrictions. Being the caretakers for a 200-year-old structure is no small task, and this gift helps us responsibly care for this structure so iconic to Bald Head Island.

In the afternoon and evening of July 30, the cast and crew of “One Summer” descended on Old Baldy to complete their final day of production on the film, set to premiere 9pm Sept. 26 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Channel. Starring Sam Page and Sarah Drew, the film is based on the book of the same title by David Baldacci about a man who journeys to his late wife’s hometown with their children to make peace with her memory. The production shot into the wee hours of the morning capturing scenes inside the lighthouse, which serves as a central piece of the romantic story. While shooting those long hours, the crew were careful to work diligently and respect Old Baldy’s historic features in producing the film.

One Summer Pictures, LLC selected Old Baldy for the shoot knowing it is symbolic of Bald Head Island and chose to thank the community for its participation in this project with this sizable donation.
